The WT study yesterday
by molybdenum in( apologies for the large space at the top i don't quite know why .
i sat through the wt study that dealt with all the new understanding.. the conductor started by by saying .
well we wont spend too much time on what we used to believe, we will consider what we believe now.. i took a look round to see how the members of the congregation were reacting to this.. nothing.... .

I emailed anonymous and asked them and they have not replied. Maybe they were just chest thumping, or maybe it was an ex Jw having a laugh.

They did something like that this weekend just gone according to a friend of mine who's a closet apostate. She's only on for family. Anyway she told me she reckons they're gonna be 'postponing' Armageddon for at least another 40 years.

Now I'm not a JW, is it ok for me to...
by Julia Orwell in...drink a lot?
gosh i love wine.
i like a good bottle of wine each night, and i have a high tolerance to alcohol, though i never drank much (except for a couple of times with the vodka, but i don't keep that stuff in the house anymore, way too dangerous) as a jw because getting slightly happy is a 'sin'.

It depends on where you are, which country. I have a heap of wine bottles so I'll see what the Australian guideline for a standard drink is...brb...a 750 ml bottle of red is 8.6, while a 750 ml of chardonnay is 7.7. Australia's drinking guide is one standard drink per hour for women, so technically that's 7-8 hours for a bottle. I know I drink too much. But I'm trying to cut back and it's good, and all the feedback I've received here has really helped me to evaluate my habit.

My Walmart encounter with the dubs today
by poppers inyup, there were 3 of them camped out in front of the store with their display of materials - first time i've seen them there.
he said he converted 5 years ago from the presbyterians, and that he had learned more in 1 year with the jws than all his time with the presbyterians (the usual stuff, jesus died on a stake, paradise earth, etc).
he claimed he didn't know about the invisible return of jesus, he was dismissive of the impact of disfellowshipping and that people can leave with little consequence, he claimed that the romans didn't use a cross until 200 years after jesus died on the stake.

Cults are known to sugar coat their beliefs. If you told a new return visit, "Hey, become a JW! No more birthdays, Christmas, voting, Father's day, Mother's Day, national holidays, and while you're at it, most of your music and video collection and hobbies, and cherished cultural traditions, but you have to come to two meetings a week, travel long distances to stumble around a convention centre in your Sunday best uncomfortable clothes, OH and if you have kids and they decide not to believe the same thing, you must pretend they're dead, and if they do believe but get in a car accident, well they will bleed to death if they get a ruptured spleen because you can't let the doctors give them blood. Oh and you have to drop all your friends too and only hang with JWs because your friends and family and all the little babies in the world are going to be killed by God, but not you, not as long as you don't masturbate or question the organisation in any way once you're baptised. That and, you will have to pretty much buy two whole wardrobes, and that's before you walk up to the doors of complete strangers and sugarcoat all the stuff I've just told you."
Yep, gonna win a lot of converts. That's why it's a gradual indoctrination.

Yep. I view it like watching a sport, or celebrity voyeurism- it's just entertaining now.

Aust. Election in 1 week - A review of Kevin Rudd, PM
by fulltimestudent ini'm still determined not to vote - just to write something unpleasant about pollies on the ballot paper.
if i lived in victoria, i just may, as an act of sheer bastardry, vote for julian assange (of wikileaks fame), but i don't live in vic, so i cant.. my objection to voting is that the political choice offers two self-perpetuating oligarchies (who are something like the governing body).
they make up a slate of candidates and election advertising consists of attempting to persuade swinging voters to vote for their slate of candidates.. anyway, i noted that k.rudd has made a video in chinese, aimed apparently at mainland china.

I don't think they'd do that, because aren't inactive ones potential returnees more so than dfd people? And potential returnees = more $.

" For a group that claims to value truth, I take issue with their repeated efforts to whitewash characters from the Bible. Numerous images of Jesus as a white man, numerous depictions of God and the angels as white men, and in this Watchtower, Rahab is portrayed as a white, fair-skinned ginger. I don't recall scripture describing her as such but I don't recall many middle-eastern gingers."
That always bugged me too. Adam and Eve were always shown as whitefellas, and since they were supposed to be perfect, whitefella=perfection. The fact that the oldest traceable races on earth are blackfellas like the Aborigines of Australia and Africa means nothing to them.
